FIRE crews tackled a blaze at Colchester railway station this morning.

Flames broke out in a small three-floor building on platform six of the station around 4am.

The fire was confined to the ground floor but the rest of the building was heavily smoke-logged.

Two crews from Colchester - using breathing apparatus and a hose reel in the operation - had the blaze extinguished by 5.19am.

A joint probe between Essex County Fire and Rescue Service and British Transport Police will today begin to establish the cause of the blaze.
