The first homes to get wheelie bins in Colchester should receive them from next Monday.
Part of the borough is to start using wheelie bins for rubbish and garden waste from June 20 – replacing the traditional bag collection that the town has operated until now.
All homes in the trial area should have received their wheelie bins by June 16.
The new policy was agreed by the borough in December and its main aim is to increase recycling – about 18% of the homes in the Colchester borough are due to get the wheelie bins.
There have already been exhibitions outlining how the collection will work – and the borough has set up a new website to keep residents informed about the plans.
Wheelie bins have been introduced by councils across the region – Ipswich introduced its first wheelie bins in 1989 – but they have proved controversial with the opposition Tories claiming they are a waste of money.
