STUDENTS are being reminded about the need for home security as detectives appeal for information following a burglary in Colchester.

The break-in happened at a student house on Tippett Close when thieves entered through an open toilet window between 5pm Wednesday, October 31 and 10am Thursday, November 1.

Inside, the burglars ransacked the bedrooms and stole a laptop, games consoles, a music player and a gaming machine.

Investigating Officer, Dc Andrea Ford, said: “We routinely offer advice to homeowners about the need to close and lock doors and windows, but these basic security tips also apply to students.

“Those who house-share all have shared responsibility in ensuring the property is secure when they leave it or even when they are inside.

“We’re looking to speak with anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity at the address during Halloween evening or the early hours of the following day.”

A forensic examination of the property was carried out as were house-to-house enquiries.

Anyone with information in connection with this burglary is urged to contact detectives at Colchester police station on 101.
