The Heritage Lottery Fund gave Colchester Civic Society £52,000 to support the refurbishment of the mural in partnership with Colchester in Bloom,

It will ensure that important public artworks by Colchester husband and wife, Henry Collins (1910-1994) and Joyce Pallot (1912-2003) are conserved and their significance is realised and enjoyed by present and future generations.

The next phase of the project includes workshops with primary school children, tours for secondary school students, and the full restoration will be documented by the Signals’ young filmmakers’ group, who work with young people to teach them film education and digital productions for social, learning, and creative outcomes.

Rachel Hipkiss, Signals’ director, said: “We are delighted to be working on this project which has inspired our young filmmakers and given them the opportunity to learn documentary and animation skills.”

Signals’ young people’s film will be screened at a special reception in October at Colchester Art Centre, alongside work from the primary school workshops and a new leaflet to help families discover the murals in the town.
