Two men were arrested on the A12 at Hatfield Peverel after a car failed to stop for police at Colchester.

Officers followed the vehicle for more than 30 minutes after it was seen in suspicious circumstances at Queen Street, Colchester at about 3.20am on Tuesday April 23.

Police followed the car through Colchester, on the A133 to Frating, to the A120 and on to the A12.

A Stinger device was used to stop the car at about 3.51am. The southbound carriageway of the A12 was closed while the vehicle, a Vauxhall Meriva, was removed.

A 32-year-old man from Witham was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and theft of a motor vehicle and a 29-year-old man from the Colchester area was arrested on suspicion of unlawful taking of a motor vehicle.

They were both still in police custody this afternoon.
