Dipping temperatures are expected to sink further today as forecasters warn of a cold snap approaching the county.

Arctic winds will advance on the UK with temperatures expected to fall below freezing tonight across much of the country and even snowfall predicted in places.

Suffolk will escape the threat of any serious weather conditions, say experts, but occasional showers of rain will break up any sunny spells today.

It will remain cold and windy going into the evening with temperatures barely above a chilly 10C (50F).

The rest of the week may feel colder still but developing showers should die away amidst brief outbreaks of sunshine tomorrow.

Thursday is expected to be dry and cloudy, but slightly warmer, with patchy rain reappearing towards the end of the week.

Unsettled weather will persist over the weekend as wintry bouts of rain continue to battle against brighter, drier interludes.

Less rainfall is expected on Sunday when clearing skies should move towards Suffolk from the north.

But any brief respite will be short-lived as unsettled conditions and the increasing risk of heavy rain moves over the county from the west. Temperatures, however, are expected to pick up a little going into next week.

Further north, unseasonally cold temperatures will today be accompanied by wintry showers on the east coast and in Scotland with hail, sleet and even snow on high ground.

Day time temperatures are expected to fall to between 7C and 10C (45F to 50F) in the south on Wednesday with temperatures in Scotland and on the east coast of between 5C and 8C (41F to 46F)

Winds will turn more westerly from Thursday with unsettled, warmer weather on the way.
