Suffolk police officers from the Ipswich central safer neighbourhood team were informed by people living around the Waterfront that a group of youngsters had been littering, playing loud music and driving in an anti-social manner regularly.

It follows a string of other anti-social hotspots reported around Ipswich, including Bramford Lane, Selkirk Road and Landseer Park, with a dedicated Operation Parkland established to tackle the issue.

Sergeant Vicky McParland from the Ipswich central SNT said: “We are aware that a group of youths have been reported as congregating along the Ipswich Waterfront in recent weeks, playing loud music, leaving litter and driving in an antisocial manner, and that this has raised some concern with the local community.

“Our officers from the safer neighbourhood team work closely with the town council and are monitoring the situation.

“We urge members of the public to report any issues to police to enable us to take action against those committing antisocial behaviour or other criminal activity.

“We will take action against those who are persistent offenders and anyone with information can report incidents directly to us.”

Last month the nearby Brickmakers’ Wood project was struck by vandals multiple times, while the Holy Trinity Church in Back Hamlet was also vandalised.

Littering from youngsters has also been reported by the church.

A spokesman from Suffolk New College said it had been made aware of the anti-social behaviour reported around the college grounds, but confirmed it was not from students.

The spokesman added: “We have a positive relationship with the local authorities and the police.

“In terms of the latest newsletter, we are aware of some issues surrounding anti-social behaviour in the vicinity of the college from external sources.

“We monitor this regularly to ensure the safety of our staff and students.”

A spokeswoman from the University of Suffolk said that it had experienced some issues on campus during that time, but the campus security team had been working alongside police over the matter.

The spokeswoman added that there was campus security 24 hours a day.
