A man was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after crashing his convertible car in Clacton.
Essex Police was called to Clacton Road near the roundabout at 2.30pm to reports that a Renault Megane was on its side.
It in understood members of the public detained the suspect before police arrived.
A police spokesman said he failed a breath test at the road side and was arrested at 3.20pm.
The driver was not believed to be injured in the crash.
He will be questioned by police.
