Cost of damage to police vehicles caused by potholes rises by 700% in four years

The number of Norfolk and Suffolk police vehicles damaged by potholes has increased more than three fold in one year – with costs rising by 150%.

Figures obtained through Freedom of Information requests shows that 17 vehicles have been damaged by potholes since 2015, with the number significantly increasing in the past year.

While just two vehicles were damaged in both 2015 and 2016, and three in 2017, the number jumped to 10 in 2018 – reflected by a huge increase in costs.

The amount spent on repairs to vehicles has risen by 700% in four years – from £305 in 2015 to £2,191 in 2018.

In the past year, costs have risen by 150% – an increase of £763.

Overall, damage to emergency vehicles has cost £4,141 since 2015.

It was reported in April that Suffolk Highways had received around 9,500 pothole reports from the public – some of which were duplicates – which was double the number received during the same period last year.
