The junction of Bramford Road and Norwich Road in Ipswich could re-open at the end of January if the borough council is convinced the former Rose And Crown pub has been made safe.

But it is still possible that the rest of the building could have to be demolished before it is safe to allow traffic back along the road.

The road has been closed since November 17 when fears of a collapse as builders converted it into a Kurdish Community Centre prompted the action from the borough.

They have been removing potentially dangerous walls since then, leaving little of the pub except its facade on to the junction.

Engineers will see if it will be safe to reopen the road after one more section of wall is removed – but there are fears that it might not be safe until all the former pub is taken down.

That could take a few more weeks of work before the junction – normally one of the busiest in Ipswich – can be reopened to traffic.
