Two people have been flown to hospital after a crash between a car and a pedestrian in a north Essex village.
Several emergency vehicles, including ambulances and police cars, were called to the scene of an accident on the B1352 in Bradfield shortly after 1.30pm.
Three ambulances, a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance officer and helicopters from East Anglian Air Ambulance and Essex Herts Air Ambulance were also at the scene.
Representatives for the East of England Ambulance Service said a man believed to be in his 70s has been flown to Norfolk and Norwich Hospital in a critical condition.
It is believed he may have had a medical episode at the wheel.
The road is currently closed both ways at its junctions with Ship Lane and Heath Road – the accident itself is thought to have happened in Station Road.
Ambulance chiefs added that a woman, believed to be in her 40s, has been taken by air ambulance to Colchester General Hospital in a stable condition with a serious shoulder injury.
Pc Dan Heard, of the Tendring community policing team, tweeted: “Please avoid The Street Bradfield.
“Road closed due to road traffic collision. Police and ambulance on scene.”
