SIX fire crews have tackled a huge fire at a salvage yard that is thought to have been started in a workshop.

The crews were sent to D K Salvage in Third Drove, Peterborough, at about 11am and found the workshop well alight.

Firefighters spent about two hours fighting the flames, which had quickly spread out into the yard, containing vehicles, scrap metal and cylinders.

Police closed off part of Third Drove during the firefighting operation and the flames were out by about 1.15pm. Crews remained at the yard to damp down the area and an investigation to establish the cause of the blaze has been launched.
