An investigation is set to take place after a fire broke out in Colchester and spread to four flats and the roof of the building resulting in residents being evacuated.

It started earlier today at 10.09am, in Golden Noble Hill, and involved seven fire crews tackling the blaze at the two-storey premises.

Two crews were deployed from the town along with those from Tiptree, Brightlingsea, Mersea, Clacton and an aerial ladder platform from Chelmsford.

On arrival the officer in charge requested further support, including an aerial ladder platform (ALP), to allow crews to tackle the fire from above.

By 11am all the occupants of the building had been safely evacuated and the Incident Commander sectorised the incident to ensure firefighters could surround and contain the fire as quickly as possible tackling the numerous hotspots.

By 1.30pm the crews were dampening down the remaining hotspots within the structure and by 4pm the fire was out and firefighters left the scene.

A spokesman for the Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said: “A full investigation into the cause of the fire will go ahead in due course.”
