Crews from Colchester Road and Princes Street Fire Stations were sent to Queen's Way at just after 3.30am to deal with the fire, which took place close to the roundabout.
A blue Vauxhall Cavalier was the vehicle involved and had been reported stolen from a car park in Beech Road, Rushmere St Andrew.
One hose reel jet was used to tackle the flames, which were extinguished by 3.45am. A fire service spokesman said the incident was being treated as suspicious.
Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact investigating officers on 01473 613500.
