An accelerant was used to help light cardboard in an attempted arson at a popular shopping centre in Newmarket.

The incident took place during Sunday evening (December 20) at about 8.15pm at the Guineas Shopping Centre, in Fred Archer Way.

Unknown suspects made attempts to set light to pieces of cardboard and it is believed they used white spirit as an accelerant.

Five youths were also thought to have been seen running away from the area at the time.

Anyone who witnessed any suspicious behaviour, or knows who was responsible, should contact Newmarket police by calling 101, quoting crime reference 37/73738/20.
