CAMPAIGNERS hoping to save an open air swimming pool in a Suffolk town will take their proposals to a town council next week.

CAMPAIGNERS hoping to save an open air swimming pool in a Suffolk town will take their proposals to a town council next week.

The Friends of the Beccles pool will present their case to Beccles Town Council on Thursday, January 8, in a bid to secure the future of the pool.

It is proposed the outdoor facility can be saved and opened under the management of a newly formed company, Beccles Lido Limited.

Shaun Crowley, of Beccles Lido Limited, said: β€œIt is clear from the surveys we have done that the people of Beccles want to save their pool, and that with the support and backing of Waveney District Council and Beccles Town Council we can not only save it, but turn it into a top class leisure facility of which Beccles can be proud.”

Waveney District Council has stated it will not open the pool next year but has declared its support for the lido and is working closely with campaigners to try and ensure its future.

Beccles Town Council has yet to declare its position and it is feared that without its support, the future of the open aired pool will remain uncertain.
