Almost 800 people saddled up for the big event, with riders setting off from outside the Cult Cafe on Ipswich’s waterfront on 55km, 100km or 100 mile routes through the county.

Following their scenic ride, the cyclists were treated to a burger and a drink as they crossed the finishing line, along with live music and entertainment at the cafe.

“The roads in places were a bit tricky but on the whole it was a superb ride.

“There are quite a few of us out today, like most years, but this is my first time.

“I really enjoyed it.
“It is a bit of a social event, we were talking to other riders as we were cycling about.

“It is about the social side of cycling.”

“Some of the roads were a bit wet from the rain yesterday but we made it round.

“This is my first time taking part, it is a very well run event.””

Craig Lannigan, events programme manager, thanked Elmy Cycles for supporting the event, whose team were on hand to drive out to any cyclists who ran into problems.

“We have had a lot of punctures today,” he said.

“The weather conditions last night (Friday) washed up a lot of stones onto the roads.

“But we have been able to respond to everyone who has asked for assistance.

“It has been a brilliant event this year.

“The official number of riders were 788.

“If we can get the marketing right we feel the event could get even bigger and better.

“We want cycling clubs to come down from around the country for our Sportive.”
