A CHARITY volunteer will visit Buckingham Palace this week for a Royal garden party - thanks to the help of a funeral home.

Heveningham man Michael Bryenton has been a Cancer Research UK volunteer for 45 years and was thrilled to receive an invitation to attend the event. However, he feared he would have to decline due to ill health.

But when friends at Rosedale Funeral Home in Halesworth heard about the invitation they stepped in to offer Mr Bryenton, 63, a chauffeured limousine for the day.

“I'm very, very excited, I'm really looking forward to it,” he said. “It's a great honour and Rosedale has been extremely kind offering to take me. I've been diagnosed with a progressive and debilitating illness which is very painful and I just couldn't have managed the long journey by train and underground.”

As well as his work with Cancer Research UK, Mr Bryenton, who used to work at CJ Ives shoe shop in Halesworth, also has a Royal British Legion long-service medal.
