Shoppers mingling with traffic in the town centre, busy public houses and a major shopping chain opening in town, were all part of life in Ipswich during the 1970s, writes David Kindred.
In this weeks Days Gone By I feature photographs from over four decades ago when the town’s new magistrates court was still to be built.
At the end of the decade the Wolsey Theatre was built and opened on a site next to the spiral car park in Civic Drive.
The town’s council offices moved to a new building, the Civic Centre nearby.
Now after around 45 years of service the Civic Centre and police station have been demolished.
The Old Times public house, at the corner of Spring Road and Cauldwell Hall Road, is still trading and has seen several name changes since the photographs featured were taken.
Can you tell use more about the photographs featured or can you add names to the pictures?
