The death of a man in Braintree has been determined to be non-suspicious, police have said.

Edward McMartin, 55, had contacted police on November 15 last year to report someone had forced entry to his flat in Courtauld Road.

Mr McMartin was taken ill and died a short while later.

Police launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death and a post-mortem proved inconclusive, pending further investigation.

Essex police says these enquiries have now been completed and have determined Mr McMartin’s death has been was not suspicious.

His family have been informed and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

A 35-year-old man from Braintree who was arrested on suspicion of murder is no longer under investigation in connection with Mr McMartin’s death and faces no further action.
