A person has died on the rail track near to Needham Market this morning.

Police and the emergency services were called to the site this morning to reports that someone had jumped in front of a train.

Greater Anglia said that due to a person being hit by a train between Ipswich and Stowmarket services between Ipswich and Cambridge, Ipswich and Peterborough and mainline services between Ipswich and Norwich have been disrupted with no trains running at all.

The company is endeavouring to introduce bus services to ensure passengers get to their destinations.

A spokeswoman said: “Nothing is running on the track at the moment and we are trying to get buses in to get round the area that is blocked.”

Meanwhile, a spokesman for British Transport Police said: “Colleagues from the ambulance service also attended, however, sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family. This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

The line eventually re-opened at 1.05pm.
