Rail services between Norwich and London Liverpool Street are being delayed at Chelmsford because of a broken down train.
The 6.30pm London to Norwich train developed a fault at the station, causing it to block the line.
Trains are now being subject to short notice cancellations, revisions and delays of around 40 minutes.
All services are currently using the London bound line, causing delays to services in both directions.
Disruption is expected until 10.30pm.
Rail staff are at the scene attempting to move the broken down train.
