One lane of the A12 southbound is closed to traffic due to a collision and oil spillage near Colchester.
The crash happened at about 5.30am near the Colchester North Interchange, where a lorry collided with a barrier.
Highways England reported long delays in the area as a result of the crash.
Emergency repairs of the barrier are underway.
