Train services between London and Chelmsford, Colchester, Ipswich and Norwich are returning to normal after being delayed because of a broken down train.

The 5.18pm London Liverpool Street to Ipswich service has broken down between Shenfield and Chelmsford, which left trains being cancelled, revised and delayed at short notice.

Greater Anglia said that its services between Liverpool Street and Shenfield, Southend Victoria, Southminster, Braintree, Colchester, Clacton, Ipswich and Norwich were not departing from Liverpool Street or from Colchester and Chelmsford towards Liverpool Street.

The issue meant passengers were stranded at London heading towards Essex and Suffolk or Colchester and Chelmsford stations heading to London.

Greater Anglia said that the train had been moved to allow services to return to normal, although delays of around 20 minutes were still expected as services returned to normal.
