Mystery surrounds the death of a missing 23-year-old student from the Denham Estate, near Bury St Edmunds, whose body was found close the River Danube in Hungary.

A major search operation was launched when Daniel Gliksten disappeared in Budapest on New Year’s Eve, 2012, and family members travelled to the city in a frantic bid to find him.

But Daniel - who held dual British and Swedish nationality - was discovered deceased on March 20, 2013, behind the stone cross gate of the River Danube.

Speaking at an inquest in Bury St Edmunds, Coroner Dr Peter Dean said the post-mortem findings supported that Daniel had drowned and his death was likely to have occurred about two to three months before his body was found.

Dr Dean said: “There is no suggestion of any other persons being involved in this very sad loss, but we simply do not hear any evidence about how he came to be in the water.

“This may well have been a tragic accident, but we simply don’t have any eyewitness accounts of that and the only conclusion I can draw is an open conclusion.”
