A bomb disposal unit was sent to the scene yesterday afternoon.

A severally corroded, cylindrical object around two feet by two and a half feet was found on the beach yesterday afternoon.

A bomb disposal team from Colchester Troop, 621 Squadron, 11 Explosive Ordnance Disposal Regiment Royal Logistic Corps was called just after 5pm on March 26.

A member of the public had raised the alarm but experts confirmed it was a lump of metal with no explosive threat and was recovered for safe disposal.

An Army spokesman said: “We would encourage the public to raise the alarm if they do have concerns about any suspect items they find and not to touch them. It is better to be safe than sorry.”
