Should Wetherspoons have banned dogs from its pubs?

Suffolk may be full of dog-friendly free houses looking to improve the experience of puppy punters but it seems that one of Britain’s most established pub chains is not so keen.

From Monday dogs, with the exception of guide dogs, have been banned from Wetherspoons pubs for being “unpredictable” according to a spokesman.

Meanwhile in Suffolk, pubs like the Crown in Hartest and the Dog in Grundisburgh would be more than happy to win a dog-friendly pub award, an annual accolade launched by the site Dogbuddy where dog owners can nominate and vote on their favourite canine welcoming establishment.

Lucy Bullard, general manager at the Crown in Hartest, Bury St Edmunds said: “We would love to win a Dog Friendly Pub Award.

She continued: “We have a massive pub garden, a separate dog-friendly dining area which means that if people bring their dog they won’t disturb who don’t want to dine with dogs.

“We’ve have dog treats behind the counter for our four-legged friends and we are on a lovely circular walk so people can come and park their cars go for a walk and finish with a lovely pub lunch here.”

Piers Skilton who works at the, aptly named, Dog pub in Grundisburgh was also interested in the dog-friendly pub accolade.

He said: “It would be a huge honour to win the award.

He continued: “To be recognised as a pub from a small place like Grundisburgh would be great.”

Sadly none of our favourite Wetherspoons watering holes are ever likely to win the award given their newly made policy but what do you think?
