THERE was a severe case of double vision at a new mother and toddler club.

Mothers certainly had their hands full and passers-by could have been forgiven for making a double take because the new group is dedicated to twins.

The recently launched club, where everything comes in pairs, offers families with twins in the Sudbury area a chance to meet every month.

The group held only its second meeting yesterday, but already 10 sets of twins and their mothers are members.

Organiser Zoey Battell, 29, who has one year-old twin brothers George and Edward, said: "There is a lot of families in Sudbury and the surrounding area who have twins, but there was nowhere for them to meet.

"We decided to set up the group because you have to approach parenthood differently when you have twins and here we can all give each other help and advice.

"There is a bit of a stigma in having twins and people often stare at them, here nobody stars at anybody because we are all the same."

The group now meets on the last Tuesday of every month at the Salvation Army Centre, in Station Road, Sudbury, for two hours from 10am.

It is affiliated to the Twin and Multiple Births Association (TAMBA), which offers nationwide to support for families who have twins.

Co-organiser, Karen Lawrence, 30, who has four-month-old twin daughters Lucy and Ellie, added: "Having twins is very different from having a single baby, for starters it is double the work. It is difficult but here we can give support and help to parents.

"We are not just for parents with twins but with multiple births, such as triplets or more. Also parents can bring along any other children they might have.

"There is games and toys for the children to enjoy and it is a social activity for the parents."

The group was launched with the help of a £200 donation from local businesses, but it is now keen for further sponsorship.

Anyone wishing to sponsor the group or needing more information about it can contact TAMPA on 0870 770 3305 or pop into the Salvation Army Centre, when the club meets next month.
