A driver has been flown to hospital with serious injuries after a two-vehicle crash in Kirby-le-Soken on the B1034.

A 4x4 and a van were involved in the collision, which happened between Malting Lane and Island Lane in the village shortly before 4pm.

Three people in total were injured in the crash, with fire crews from Frinton and Clacton called to the scene to help release a trapped casualty.

The Herts Air Ambulance flew the 4x4 driver to Colchester General Hospital, with the patient described as “time critical” by an East of England Ambulance Service spokesman.

A second patient was also taken to Colchester General Hospital by land ambulance, while rescue teams are still on scene waiting to treat the third casualty.
