A YOUNG man, who was arrested in connection with taking a police car out of action, has been bailed.
The unmarked police car was hit by a Peugeot after officers pulled it over to a lay-by on the A12 on Thursday afternoon following a number plate recognition check suggesting it was not insured.
The driver then went on the run, prompting the force helicopter to scour the area from the skies. A member of the public later called in to report someone hiding in his garden shed in Martlesham.
Police went to the scene and arrested a 21-year-old man from London on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking, criminal damage to a police vehicle and failing to stop for the police.
He has now been bailed to return to Ipswich Police Station on April 26.
