A DRIVER has been injured in a crash between two buses near Shotley today.

A DRIVER has been injured in a crash between two buses.

The accident happened shortly before 3pm today at the Woodlands Road and Main Road crossroads on the B1080 at Freston, near Shotley, and involved a single-decker bus and a double-decker bus.

The double-decker was a school bus service run by Ipswich Buses and was on its way to Holbrook High School to collect pupils when the crash happened.

The other vehicle was a scheduled service run by Far East Travel which was returning from Shotley.

Both buses had no passengers on-board at the time of the accident.

The driver of the mini bus suffered leg injuries and is believed to have been airlifted to hospital.

He was rescued from the vehicle by firefighters.

A spokesman for Far East Travel said he may have suffered a broken a leg and has other injuries. It is not known at this stage how serious his condition is.

A spokesman for Ipswich Buses said its driver had suffered cuts and bruises in the crash and was badly shaken.

Woodlands Road in Holbrook is currently closed while emergency crews work at the scene.

Police are advising motorists to avoid the area.
