The Earl of Wessex is visiting Ipswich tomorrow to meet Suffolk charities working to give young people “the brightest possible future”.

Organised by Suffolk Community Foundation (SCF), the Earl’s visit is hoped to celebrate the grass roots work tackling the challenges facing Suffolk’s young people.

The county is said to have “particularly poor levels of youth aspiration” - but SCF says charities working together are committed to support young people towards “the brightest possible future”.

As founder of the Wessex Youth Trust, the Earl has a keen interest in helping young people, and will be invited during his visit to meet some of those being supported by charities in the county.

Representatives from 4YP, Ipswich Community Media, the Porch Project, Inspire Suffolk, the Bangladeshi Support Centre and Access Community Trust, will also be in attendance.

SCS chief executive Stephen Singleton said: “This is a wonderful opportunity to bring together and thank so many people who are already working together so brilliantly to solve the challenges faced by young people growing up here in Suffolk – and crucially to introduce still more to this important work and ask for their support.”

Other notable figures scheduled to attend tomorrow’s event include Ipswich mayor Sarah Barber, Ipswich MP Sandy Martin and The Bishop of Ipswich and St Edmundsbury The Rt Revd Martin Seeley. Ipswich Borough Council’s chief executive, Russell Williams, The Deputy Lieutenant of Suffolk and Suffolk County Council chairman Stephen Burroughes are also set to attend.

Tim Holder, Head of Public Affairs at SCF said: “We are looking forward to welcoming The Earl of Wessex to Ipswich, he will be joining representatives from the public sector, business people, private philanthropists and many experts who are passionate about support young people to blossom and become the very best that they can be.”
