Bomb disposal experts detonated six mortar shells washed up on the Suffolk coast.
The shells were found on the beach yesterday afternoon between Dunwich and Walberswick after being exposed by rough sea conditions.
Members of the public walking on the shore reported the finds.
Coastguards from Aldeburgh, Shingle Street and Felixstowe teams cordoned off the area to keep the public safe while the Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit were called to deal with the shells.
War-time weaponry is sometimes washed up by the waves or exposed by erosion of the shore, and even after 70 years can still be highly volatile and dangerous.
Beach walkers spotting anything suspicious are advised not to touch and to call 999 and ask for police and Coastguard.
