A car fire caused severe traffic disruption on a stretch of the A12 in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The fire led to a full closure of the southbound carriageway between junctions 22 and 21 for Witham.
Firefighters and police were called to scene just before midnight on Tuesday.
The London-bound road was closed, with a diversion set up through Witham, via the B1389.
At about 12.30am, Highways England reported that the closure had been lifted.
