Meanwhile, Ipswich town centre will be congested next weekend as roads are closed in anticipation of record numbers of visitors for the annual Maritime Festival.

And there could also be delays along a stretch of the A12, with a manual stop-go system on Monday likely to cause tailbacks around the Melton area.

Here is your rundown of Suffolk’s roads for the week ahead:

A12

Two-way traffic lights near Blythburgh are expected to cause delays between August 13-17, as BT carry out maintenance work.

There will also be two-way traffic lights near Stratford St Andrew between August 15-17.

One lane wll be closed northbound near Hacheston from 8.30am on August 13 which is expected to delay any commuters.

Stop/go signs are being used near Melton from 8.30am on August 13 as roadworks are completed.

Further south, overnight roadworks will take place at the Crown interchange in Colchester over the next three weeks. The disruption will affect traffic heading eastbound onto the A120.

Roadworks in place near Marks Tey until September will also delay drivers, and drivers in the Witham area may be affected by works taking place August 13-14.

A14 - There are overnight closures on the A140 around the Norwich Road junction on the A14 between August 15-21.

Three sets of roadworks are closing the A14 in both directions between junctions 58-62, near Trimley from August 13 at 8pm through to September 1. This is expected to cause big delays for commuters and residents.

Ipswich - The Ipswich Waterfront will be closed to traffic for three days, August 17-19, while the Maritime Festival takes place along the quayside.

The event is expected to attract over 30,000 people this year so prepare for a high volume of pedestrians over the weekend.

Portman Road and Sir Alf Ramsey Way are also shut 11am-7pm next Saturday when Ipswich Town take on Aston Villa at home.

The B1456 (The Strand) in Wherstead to Redgate Lane is closed all next week (August 13-17) while Suffolk Highways complete roadworks along the road.

Four days of roadworks, August 16-20, will close one lane of Crown Street, outside Crown Pools.

The St Augustine’s roundabout on Felixstowe Road has ongoing works with temporary traffic lights in place.

Felixstowe - The Port of Felixstowe Road is shutting for maintenance by Highways England from August 13 to September 1.

This combined with the Trimley closure on the A14 will result in a lot of congestion for drivers trying to get in and out of Felixstowe.

Colchester

Multiple roads from Colchester to Manningtree are closed until August 14 as surface dressing is carried out to repair expensive damage to the road surface.

The B1058 towards Braiswick is shut between August 14-20, also for surface dressing.

Bury St Edmunds - The town centre is affected this week as St Andre’s Street, Woolhall Street and Kinds Road all have temporary traffic lights until August 21.

Angel Lane is also shut between August 13-17.

Needham Market - Lion Lane has ongoing roadworks, with the road closed between the B1113 and Maitland Way and temporary traffic lights outside The Lion pub controlling traffic.

Newmarket - Exeter Road in the town centre is shut on August 16 between 7am and 5pm for a Town Takeover by the Newmarket Business Improvement district.
