A busy road leading in and out of Sudbury is set to be closed for five weeks to allow workmen to install new gullies and drainage pipes.
Motorists will have to find alternative routes as East Street will be shut between Girling Street and Waldingfield Road although the road will be open where possible at weekends.
The closure will take place from Monday, October 1, with the work set to help reduce the risk of flooding.
Highways Suffolk said that “considerable investigations” have been completed as well as cleaning the highway drainage network and pipes. This has also included work to reinstate a highways flood soaking lagoon on the east side of East Street.
During the investigations it was discovered that additional work would be required as the drainage is not adequate during heavy rainfall.
Diversionary routes will be set up southbound via Springlands Way, Melford Way and Girling Street and nortbounds via Girling Street, Newton Road and Northern Road.
