Suffolk superstar Ed Sheeran still knows the value of a good read – and was happy to give his backing to the county’s libraries when he bumped into their boss today.

Ed was having a coffee with a friend on the edge of Ipswich when Suffolk Libraries general manager Alison Wheeler spotted him – she already knows his mother Imogen who was in Halesworth Library at the same time running a jewellery design workshop.

The Thinking Out Loud hit-maker was happy to pose for a selfie with her – and said that reading and visiting his local libraries in Suffolk were very important to him when he was growing up.

He is still registered with the library, so all he needs to do next time he visits Framlingham is to flash his card and a world of books (or at least those on the shelves in Bridge Street) is at his disposal.

Ms Wheeler was delighted to encounter the singer-songwriter, who regularly returns to his home county. She said: “It was fantastic to bump into Ed today and to know he supports reading and the library service in Suffolk.

“I was able to tell him that we are very pleased to be able to sell his jewellery in Halesworth Library.”

And it turns out Ed isn’t the only celeb with the world of Suffolk libraries at his fingertips.

Richard Ayowade, star of Channel 4’s The IT Crowd and now a Hollywood actor, is another household name who is still registered as a Suffolk Libraries user.
