AN elderly couple have been left shaken after a man brandishing a handgun ransacked their home during a terrifying burglary.

AN elderly couple have been left shaken after a man brandishing a handgun ransacked their home during a terrifying burglary.

The married couple, aged in their 70s, were uninjured during the incident, which happened at their home in Lancaster Gardens East in Clacton at about 10pm last night.

He was described as being aged about 20-years-old, white and about 6ft 1in or 2ins tall. He was of a thin build, clean shaven and had a straight “aquiline” nose.

The burglar wore a navy blue waterproof jacket, a light grey beanie hat with the corners sewn over and dark trousers with black footwear. The couple told police he also spoke with a local accent.

The man made off with a purse, a Rolex watch and a laptop computer. The residents were left shaken but uninjured by the incident.

Detective Inspector Jim Caulfield said it was a “particularly nasty” crime and called for anyone who recognised the man from the description or who may have seen him in the Lancaster gardens area last night to get in touch.

He also asked anyone who is offered a Rolex watch or laptop computer by a man answering the description to please contact detectives at Clacton CID on 0300 3334444.
