A 74-year-old man whose car veered off the road and was in collision with two other vehicles has died in hospital.

Charles Lilley, from Moulton, was flown to Norfolk and Norwich Hospital after his silver Ford Focus crossed a roundabout and crashed through a fence, colliding with two cars in its path.

The vehicle was exiting the Tesco car park in Lord’s Croft Lane, Haverhill, at roughly 10.15am on August 31 when it veered onto the other side of the road, mounted the pavement, went across the roundabout and crashed into a black Ford Focus on a pedestrian crossing.

It then continued across the road and crashed through a fence, colliding with a grey Mitsubishi Outlander which was parked on the other side.

After being in hospital for 11 days, Mr Lilley passed away on September 10.

Police enquiries into this incident are ongoing and it is not clear at this time whether Mr Lilley died as a result of the collision or due to a medical episode prior to it.

The driver and passenger of the black Ford Focus were taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital for treatment, with the male driver sustaining cracked ribs and a cracked sternum.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 101 quoting reference CAD 99 of 31 August.
