A MAN arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking following a serious crash in Elveden has been bailed and detained under the Mental Health Act.

Police were called at 2.25pm on Saturday, January 5 to a report of a two-vehicle collision on the A11 close to the junction of the B1106 Elveden crossroads.

Police, fire and ambulance attended the scene and the driver of a VW Golf, a 29-year-old man from Coventry, was arrested and taken into police custody for aggravated vehicle taking.

The man, who was subsequently arrested for dangerous driving and attempted murder, has today been bailed and detained under the Mental Health Act.

He is due to return to the Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre on February 20.

The second vehicle involved in the collision, a Toyota Yaris, had five occupants, two adults and three teenage girls.

The male driver, who is in his 40s, was taken to West Suffolk Hospital and is described as being in a stable condition.

The female front seat passenger, also aged in her 40s, was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital and is in a stable condition.

Two of the teenage girls were taken to Addenbrookes and remain in a stable condition and the other teenage girl was taken to West Suffolk Hospital but has since been discharged.

Anyone who saw the collision is asked to call Pc Danny Ormes at the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 101.
