Emergency services are looking into possible reports of an incident involving an aircraft in a forest in Suffolk.

A call was made to Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service at 1.52pm today by a person who saw a low flying air plane near Elveden.

Smoke has been reported in a wooded area and an area of heather is burning.

Six crews, from Thetford, Woodbridge, Bury St Edmunds, Brandon and Newmarket, are in attendance.

The fire service and Suffolk Police are trying to ascertain if it is a plane which has crashed but it is not believed to be the case.

The fire service said they had been informed of controlled burning at the Elveden Estate.

And the estate confirmed they are burning some heather on the heaths as part of the rotational management.

Searches are continuing in the area with help from the fire service drone.

RAF Lakenheath have confirmed with the fire service that all of their jets are accounted for.
