An information and support hub has been set up to enhance understanding and treatment of emotional and psychological abuse.
Empower Suffolk aims to improve awareness and support for coercive control.
Founder, Min Grob, of Bury St Edmunds, who has held conferences on coercive control since 2015, said the offence is often dismissed as “someone being bossy or nagging, rather than understanding the true extent of abuse where someone seeks to isolate and subjugate a victim”.
She added: “Even with training, many frontline workers struggle to identify coercive control and the nuanced nature of abuse.”
The hub will provide professional discussion, victim support, workshops, wellbeing sessions and service signposting. From 2019, it will provide training in coercive control, stalking, perpetrator intervention, and facilitator training in the Freedom Programme.
