PANTHERS have signed up to an end of season mini league involving Coventry and Wolverhampton.

This involves meeting each team home and away and the Panthers management believe this is an excellent way to finish the season, and it's hoped to make this an annual event.

The championship will be run between Peterborough, Coventry and Wolverhampton, with each club facing the other home and away once. All rules and regulations and points scoring will be exactly the same as in the Elite League, and the team who finishes top of this mini league will be crowned Midland Champions.

Panthers have yet to confirm dates with Wolverhampton but home and away fixtures with Coventry have been agreed and the Panthers kick off the Midland League with the opening fixture at Coventry next Friday.

Confirmed Midland League Fixtures

Friday 4th September - Coventry v Peterborough

Thursday 10th September - Coventry v Wolverhampton

Monday 14th September - Wolverhampton v Coventry

Thursday 1st October - Peterborough v Coventry

Peterborough season tickets will of course be valid for these matches and normal admission prices will apply to supporters.

Dates for the Wolverhampton meetings will be released when confirmed.

Promoter Mick Bratley said: “We spoke at length with Colin Pratt from Coventry and I like the idea of this competition. Although we are sticking with the EL formula for 2009, during the winter we will be planning towards doing something different with this competition for future seasons. It extends all the clubs seasons which is good news for riders and supporters. Our home fixtures are likely to be towards the end of September or early October, as September is a busy period for Speedway and as of yet, of course, our participation in the EL play off's is still unknown.”

Owner Rick Frost said;”Our home meetings finished early this year as we had no rain offs so the idea of a Midland Championship with our local friends and rivals, Wolves and Coventry, seemed a good idea to give all our supporters two extra home meetings plus two away meetings that are in easy travelling distance from Peterborough. The home meetings will be free entry for season ticket holders and normal Elite League prices for all others. If the meetings are well attended this may become an annual event”.
