Parents of special needs children hit out at council after school transport mishap
A number of pupils with special needs have been left in limbo after the county council re-tendered the school transport network in Suffolk.
Many parents claim they were forced to repeatedly chase contractors to try and find out if their route, time and personal attendant staff and drivers have changed – with some fearful their children may be collected by strangers on the first day of term.

Planning row shock for residents of new Persimmon estate at Framlingham
Residents of a new housing estate in Framlingham have been left stunned after getting letters from the local council warning them that their homes don’t have full planning permission.
The 95 properties being built by Persimmon Homes on Mount Pleasant had been granted planning permission in January 2016, but there were applications for amendments lodged with Suffolk Coastal council in August last year – and these were never approved.
Sudbury man guilty of bomb hoax
A Sudbury man has been convicted of making hoax bomb call which led to Sudbury town centre being closed earlier this year.
The eight second call was later found to have originated from 41-year-old Mark Brett’s phone, but with a different SIM card, while forensic evidence matched his fingerprint to the device and his DNA to the bag.
Thousands of Suffolk children are not ’school ready’, figures reveal
Thousands of children in Suffolk could be starting the first year of school without basic skills such as being able to hold a pencil or going to the toilet by themselves.
According to figures published by the Department for Education, as part of its annual census, just 69% of children in Suffolk were at a good level in the 2016-17 academic year, the latest year for which data is available.
