Libera Assini was celebrating yesterday after she achieved straight As and A*s in a whopping 11 subjects.

Libera, 18, set a new individual record at the Colchester Royal Grammar School with her results.

She is now going on to study philosophy, politics and economics at Oxford University, and hopes to do something involving languages when she graduates.

Libera took French, Chinese and Italian as three of her subjects and said the latter two were the easiest as they were spoken at home.

Her father is Italian and mother is Taiwanese,

Libera, who is from Wivenhoe, said: “Time management was always my biggest issue.

“It was a case of trying to juggle all the courses which was not easy.

“When it came to exam time though, it was just a case of focusing on the next subject as it came up.

“I was hopeful of getting A grades in all the subjects I took but these results amazed me.

“I was interested in all the subjects that I took which makes it so much easier, I was not just doing the courses just to get the results.

“It did not come easily to me though and I had to work for every grade I achieved.

“People will say that A-levels are getting easier – perhaps they are – but it’s the same for everybody who is taking them.”

Libera achieved A*s in Government and Politics, Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Further Maths, French, Italian and Critical Thinking, and As in Chinese, History and General Studies.

Headmaster Ken Jenkinson said: “Libera is certainly a very exceptional student with such a wide range of abilities and talents and I can think of no other student who could contemplate taking 11 A-levels in one session.

“Libera had to do an awful lot of home study, and fit some things around her other subjects.

“She was a senior prefect, a key member of the school orchestra and fully involved in the wider life of the school so she took all her academic studies in her stride.”
