Two people left trapped in their cars after a crash in north Essex were taken to hospital for further treatment, the ambulance service has confirmed.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service (ECFRS) said on Monday it had been called to reports of crash in Maldon Road, Colchester, which left one of the vehicles on its side, at around 8.40am.

“Fire crews worked with paramedics to help release two casualties trapped in the vehicles,” a spokesman for ECFRS said.

The casualties were reportedly freed from the vehicles by 9am and left in the care of ambulance crews.

Today, the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust, confirmed: “We were called to reports of a road traffic collision in Maldon Road, Colchester. Two ambulances, an ambulance officer and an ambulance officer attended the scene to treat two patients, who were both to Colchester General Hospital for further treatment.”
