Firefighters have tackled a blaze in a condenser unit at Bradwell Nuclear Power Station.

Eleven crews were sent to the scene and began fighting the flames inside the unit at about 12.30pm, using hose reels and foam to put out the flames.

The fire involved titanium rods which were being broken down at the time and caught fire.

Divisional Officer Matt Hughes, the officer in charge of the operation, said: “The crews worked professionally to extinguish the fire quickly, the incident was dealt with by 2.30pm.”

Crews from Tillingham, Colchester, South Woodham, Burnham, Maldon, Chelmsford, Brentwood and Orsett attended the incident.
