Firefighters used a special appliance to spray water from an off-road vehicle to tackle a three acre crop fire.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a large field fire in London Road Chelmsford shortly after 2pm today.

Crews from Chelmsford and Great Baddow reported on arrival that around three acres of standing corn was alight.

Firefighters used a Unimog to spray water while moving across off-road terrain.

The landowner also helped separate the burning corn from other areas of the field to prevent it spreading further.

Firefighters used beaters to extinguish all remaining hotspots in the area. The fire was completely out by 2.35pm.
