An Essex man who was exposed in a sting by a group of vigilante paedophile hunters has been given a community order.
The paedophile hunters set up a fake profile in the name of “Amy” on a dating website for people over 18 which was contacted by 49-year-old Nigel Missing, Ipswich Crown Court heard.
During exchanges, Missing was told that “Amy” was only 15 and she “had a thing for older guys”, said Marc Brown, prosecuting.
Missing arranged to meet “Amy” in Stowmarket where he was intercepted by members of the vigilante group who contacted the police.
Missing, 49, of Nelson Grove, Chelmsford, admitted attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming and was given a 12-month community order during which he will have to attend a 30 day rehabilitation requirement.
He was also made the subject of a five year sexual harm prevention order and ordered to pay £500 costs.
Paul Donegan, for Missing, said had it not been for the vigilante group his client wouldn’t be before the court.
