A MAN who admitted causing the death of his wife in a horror crash has today avoided a jail term.
The vehicle Simon Aylott was driving was in collision with a lorry on the A12 near Witham last year. His wife, Rachel, 38, was sitting in the back of their Toyota Rav 4 and died from her injuries.
Earlier this year Aylott, 34, pleaded guilty to causing the death of his wife by careless driving. He denied causing her death by dangerous driving.
Aylott, of Bromley Road, Frating, appearing today at Chelmsford Crown Court, was handed a nine-month jail term, suspended for two years. He was also disqualified from driving for two years, ordered to pay costs of �1,200 and given a 12-month supervision order.
